“Oasis: Supersonic” Review

Noel: ambitious, chip on his shoulder the size of Everest, callous, creative. Liam: curious, impulsive, electric, raw. Both: sensitive, funny, passionate, driven by jealousy, rage, resentment, a need for attention and recognition that goes beyond reason, a desire for love and care that comes from such a real place that you can’t help but connect with them. I admire Noel and Liam so much and freely admit that they can each be fucking dickheads. While watching, you ricochet in defense of one brother in one moment and then are appalled at his behavior in the next. I can’t help but come away feeling that beneath all of their sneery bravado and cutting exteriors, Noel and Liam have a sweetness and delicate romanticism that they’ve packed away for fear of it being torn to pieces. Showed what abuse – and witnessing that abuse – can do to the psyche. This doc illustrates the energetic mixture of what people can be with bucketloads of talent and an open field of pride, hurt, love, and anger, searching for peace – or rather – belonging, security, and safety, and not knowing where to find it. Feeling threatened at every turn, like a cornered animal, and lashing out at the hand that reaches out even if it’s extended in help. You either get it or you don’t. I get it.
